Elin,

I love that phrase, paradigm shift--a whole eternity of change in that mini-haiku right there, isn't there. Lovely to hear you name all the selves, isn't it such an intense new self that comes to the fore to give in a new way. Just when we probably need the most to also be given to. Sending my best to your recovery from the physical and emotional marathon you've been through. And so glad to meet here.

My baby is asleep beside me. He's four weeks old and came eventually after a really tough three days by emergency section. It was horrible and traumatic. I'm experiencing a paradigm shift unlike any I expected and feel something like grief for my old self. A self who worked and wrote and had a relationship with God and compassion for others.
Reading this gives me hope that that old me isn't dead and that there might yet be space to be that person again - only with an added dimension - that of being Mother to the small person at my side.
Thank you. I'd begun to wonder if there was ever going to be a way back.

Sweet Krystyne, I hope all goes well with the birth. And for you--5 and 3 makes for a busy, busy time of it all. And your sister is lucky to have your support and shoulder to lean on. Thanks so much for the comment.
